University Library Zurich

Plant Science Archive

The archive materials include a wide variety of botanical documents and records: individual manuscripts, herbarium lists of collectors, field notes, original drawings and maps, photographs, site plans of the Botanic Garden, bequests and estates of researchers, etc. What the documents have in common is that they came to the library through people who had a connection to the Botanic Garden and the botanical-plant science institutes or who used to work here.

Particularly noteworthy are the two research bequests of Hans Schinz (1858-1941), Director of the Old Botanic Garden and Museum and founder of the Institute of Systematic Botany, and Albert Däniker (1894-1957), also Director of the Botanic Garden and Museum and Professor of Systematic Botany. Their estates are listed in printed directories that can be ordered via swisscovery
